It’s time to refresh those age-old party standards. You know what I’m talking about. There are a few favorite party foods or decorations in every family. Some families go crazy over the cheese, rotel and sausage dip. Others can’t resist those little sausages wrapped in crescent rolls. My family has a “Happy birthday” sign that has been around longer than I have. While it is great to have a few “go-to” party snacks, sometimes those classics are due for an upgrade.
Keeping a few favorite party recipes definitely makes planning (or attending) a party easier, but there’s nothing stopping you from switching up your party game and adding a little spice to your regular routine. Here are a few simple ways to improve your classic party game plan.
Listed below are some party must-haves followed by some ideas for taking them to the next level:
Instead of melted butter in your standard Chex Mix, try coconut oil. Not only is it a healthier option, but it adds another flavor element. Try adding a new ingredient, like peanuts.
Leave the block of cheese in the pantry this one time, and try a new style of cheese dip. We have a cheese ball flavor for any party theme you can imagine. Try blue cheese buffalo dip for game day or herbs with chardonnay for a summer wine tasting.
The veggie tray is one of the most obvious party snacks around, but we can agree that it gets a little boring. Spice it up by adding a shot of flavor to the dip in the center of the tray. Your ladies’ brunch party guests will be impressed by the bloody mary vegetable dip. Serve with bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, celery and radishes.
Don’t get me wrong, I love cupcakes as much as the next person, but there’s always room for improvement when we’re hosting a party. Let’s upgrade those standard chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with some special toppings or surprise creamy fillings. These smore’s cupcakes are the perfect treat for a kid’s birthday party. If you’re planning a bridal or baby shower, it might be worth it to learn how to frost cupcakes and create a beautiful dessert table.
