Making Dinner Work When Your Pantry is Bare

Posted by

Sitting down with your family for a homemade meal is one of the best parts of the day. One of the worst parts of the day is when you realize that your pantry is bare and the contents of your fridge are picked over. How will you make a homemade meal that tastes good with the few ingredients you have?

Hope is not lost. You can make a delicious meal even with just a few random items that are stocked in your kitchen.

We’re showing you how to make tasty meals at home with the ingredients you have on-hand.

Rabbit Creek Pulled Pork Sandwich

Meal one

What you have on hand:

1. Pork

2. Bread

3. Root beer

4. Barbecue sauce

Transform those ingredients into root beer pulled pork sandwiches.

You can use any type of pork you have on hand. A roast, loin, or tenderloin will all work well. Season the meat with salt and pepper and any other seasonings that you have on-hand. Place the pork in the crock pot and pour enough root beer to almost cover the meat. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Then, you shred it with two forks and serve it on a roll or your favorite Italian herb beer bread.

Rabbit Creek Baked Potato

Meal two

What you have on hand:

1. Potatoes

2. Olive oil

3. Kosher salt

Transform those ingredients into a baked potato bar.

Did you know you can “bake” potatoes in the slow cooker? This trick might change your dinner game plan. Spray the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray and scrub your potatoes. Rub with olive oil and coat with kosher salt. Let them cook on high for 4-6 hours, rotating occasionally. When you’re ready, set out your cheese, bacon, chives and favorite toppings and let everyone make their own baked potato. Round out the meal with country bean soup.
